Ok, I'll ask...are the Fluke tapes proprietary or will others work? I was lucky enough to buy a 9010a advertised as 'can be used with a PC' that doesn't have the RS232 option. Now, what does the PC do? Yell at the 9010? On a related note - anyone have a dead 9010 with the RS232 option that I can cannibalize? Thanks, Greg

Fluke and space invaders input ports

hi all.. i have a weird board here... withotu going into details, i want to read the input ports, i can't figure out the darn mame source driver to find where the input ports are, but i gather they are on actual ports, not in addresses.. i'm not entirely familiar with the 8080 and how it works, and this is the first time i have had wanted to read the ports... on other cpus (z80 for example,) i just read and interperet an address... hwo do i do this with the 8080 in space invaders?? BTW i'm using a 9100 :) thanks! andy

TEK 1230 logic analyzer?

Well, it was a last minute checkout register impulse buy, but $60 isn't too bad is it? Anyone know how many channels this is good for? Guess I'll be making some cables to as this company seems to throw away any cables they get. Time to check the web for a manual. Greg

Approved: lost4words If some bright person wants to implement the QT changes, perhaps on a small sub-board, that would use the original Z80 pod, then more folks could use the Quick Test functions of the Z80-QT pod. I just opened mine up and it's all surface mount. Nice board - shielded etc. I can send pictures... If anyone wants to attempt this, the QT manual has the P.A.L. structure in the schematics section, and I'll store the ROM code on the FTP site later today in the new Z80-QTpod directory. Hi all, I still have the floppies here, but I need to post them to Andy Welburn so he can check they are ok. (there was the possibilty of a little accident when I was duplicating the disks). Sad 9100 day for me

My main 9100's HD died. Now I have 2 9100's with dead drives. Drive wouldn't spin up, seems stiction raised its ugly head. A quick rap with a tool got the drive spinning again, but alas, the system comes up with an "unable to chk drive: f7" error, and won't boot. Hopefully its just a slight filesystem error and some of the data may be retrievable later, as there were parts libraries and other utilities that I didn't have saved to floppy. <sniff, sniff>

Testing Galagas

I've been having some fun servicing a pile of Galaga boards and have found a few commonalities that I thought I'd share: *The custom chips legs are corroding off - spray contact cleaner on them to slow this down, something that leaves a fine silicon film might be best. *White IC sockets are trash - replace them *Ceramic SIP resistors are trash - replace all of them! *Weird problems are sometimes traceable by momentarily shorting circuits to ground on the video board that use resistor pull-ups, the control ICs do not have strong pull-ups (otherwise they would not need the resistors) and you can learn a lot of how the images are built this way.
