Fluke 9110FT SPECTRUM-TX diskettes imaged

Hi all! I bought a Fluke 9110FT setup and with that setup came the SPECTRUM-TX diskettes which I now have imaged and uploaded to the "/TTL/Test_Equipment/Fluke/9100 Series" folder on John's FTP site. Inside the ZIP archive is a ReadMe with more details about the images etc. I haven't tested the images myself but I think they should probably work as the original diskettes was error free. I chatted with the seller and he confirms that it does NOT power up. So chances are the battery backed up system ROM has failed. Item 390623172259 He reduced the price on his own from the original asking $59.95 to $19.95. Pity. I was hoping to find a good one to extract the program from to save mine... If someone here buys it and CAN extract the ROM data I'd sure like a copy! Fluke FIDE 4.1.9 Run-time error'68'

I've been using the 9010A only with the keyboard, however I am now finding that I have to run some scripts for servicing some old game boards - Pole Position 2 by Namco. By and large I can type the stuff in, but I wanted to use FIDE to both edit the code and upload it to my unit either via the USB mod or the Wi-Fi mod (back in 2015/2016 we talked about these). Is anyone else using Quarterarcade's FIDE? I have a regular occurrence of the run-time error 68. It is Windows based: 68 Device unavailable A hardware device or necessary requirement for the program is not being found. Verify all hardware and software required by the program is installed. If you continue to have the same issues verify the latest updates are installed for the program as well as any hardware device the program needs. Anyone else found a solution or a cause for this? Perhaps FIDE just isn't happy running over a network...or does it needs longer timeouts? For the Fluke Z8000 Pod - making interface PCB for Z8002 CPU

I have a Z8000 pod and am in the process of making a PCB for the Z8001 test socket on it so I can test Z8002 (Pole Position of course) logic. The PCB is to adapt the Z8002 CPU to the Z8001 test socket. I will likely be making two or three of these (minimum quantity) so if anyone is interested in one for their Z8000 pod please let me know - @ cost plus postage. I plan on having the PCBs run off either later this week or next. 9100 easter eggs & hidden

I’ve found a couple 9100-related easter eggs and undocumented features. I was going to write this up and post here, but it got really long, so I made a blog post instead. The most interesting thing I found is an undocumented TL/1 function which lets you call out to an OS-9 binary. I de-soldered and dumped the ROM of one of my 9100FT keyboards (they are all the same). Attached are some pics of the 9100FT keyboard and a Keytronic KB-101 I got for $20 off eBay (it had been mentioned previously as being a possible conversion candidate - http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/2017q4/002920.html) This is the standard KB-101, not the Plus version (which has a different LED layout). The cable feeds in from the opposite side than the Fluke otherwise it's very similar, ignoring of course the keycap labeling. The KB-101 is unfortunately a different board version. There is a socket for an EPROM which is unpopulated. The microcontroller has slightly different markings (20417-65/8031) than the Fluke (20417-36/8031). If I connect the KB-101 to a PC it works which is interesting as normally the 8031 has no internal ROM. The KB-101 cable is pinned out differently and there are more DIP switches on the KB-101. Populated with the Fluke data and using the Fluke cable, unfortunately, it's not recognized by the 9100FT. I only had 20 mins to look at it. Hopefully I'll have more time this weekend. It's possible one of the additional DIP switches selects the external ROM. 9100FT Programmer’s Keyboard

I finally tracked down a Programmer’s Keyboard for my 9100. I don’t know how widely it’s known, but there were two different versions of the keyboard. The only photos I’ve seen are the earlier model, which meant that I almost let this one slip away. It was on eBay, new old stock, for $36 shipped! All the info is in the manuals, if you look. I had always wondered why the keyboard illustrations in the Programmer’s Manual didn’t match the photos of the keyboard I’d seen. It’s because I read scans of a later (1991) printing, which has illustrations of the later revision of the keyboard. I haven’t seen a 1988 printing, but I bet it shows the earlier keyboard layout. The various 9100 service manuals list different part numbers: 9100A Supplemental Parts List (May 1988), fig. 5-21, p. 5-53 ---- Lists p/n 5-64995-131. This seems to be the more common version of the keyboard. It has a block of (mostly) 2u keys on the far right, angled RETURN key, and arrows by the SHIFT and RETURN keys. Photo: https://i.imgur.com/undefined.png The Service Manual which this is a supplement to (9100A Service Manual p/n 809210, May 1988) only lists the Fluke stock number, 757120, in fig. 5-20 on p. 5-50. 9100FT Service Manual (p/n 910476, November 1991), fig. 5-18, p. 5-49 ---- This has new stock and parts numbers. s/n 887216, p/n E04008051. The later revision more closely resembles a 1990s 101-key PC keyboard, with separate numpad and arrow keys. It seems to work fine on a 9100A. Since this an uncommon keyboard, I naturally tore it apart and took some photos of the inside before even plugging it in. It seems to be second-sourced from KeyTronics, which might explain the lack of documentation (schematics, etc) in the Fluke service manuals. Even though it looks like a PC keyboard, it uses uncommon capacative (hybrid mechanical) switches mounted on a metal plate, and feels much sturdier than the 1990s rubber dome board I was expecting. The controller is an 8031, with the program in a 2764 EPROM. I’m going to see if I can dump it, though it’s soldered in and I’d prefer not to remove it. There are two DIP switches which are accessible via a panel on the bottom. I have no idea what (if anything) they do. I’ve built a few keyboards from kits, so I was hoping that with a good look inside, it might be possible build a reproduction with the same microcontroller and program. While the 8031/2764 is excellent news for this, the rest is a downer. There’s an Exar 22-00958-000 IC which handles the capacitive keyswitches and provides keypress data to the 8031. It looks like the switches and controller are hard to come by, which renders the program on the EPROM useless. Still, maybe someone could adapt another KeyTronics board, as they seem to be fairly similar. 9100 Floppy archive updates

I’ve added some things to my 9100 floppy archive recently, just sharing here for visibility. - Tony Jones was kind enough to provide a dump of the 9132A 68000 pod Master User Disks V1.0. Thanks very much, Tony. - A dump of 9100A System V3.0 has been added. The disks are unused, so this is a perfect dump. I’ve been looking for older versions for a while, so very happy to have this. - Three separate Programmer System Disks V3.0 have been added. Unfortunately, all appear to have been used and have serial numbers written back. Since there are multiple copies used on multiple machines, and the serial numbers were written on them, these may be useful for better understanding the 9100’s serial protection. - A second dump of 9100A System V4.1b has been added. The previous dump was incomplete due to a bad userdisk, this one is perfect. - A dump of 9100A System 5.0 (system+userdisks) has been added. Unfortunately, the disks have been used, so the system disks have a serial number written onto them. - A dump of 9100A Programmer System Disk V5.0. Also used and serialized.
