Fluke FIDE 4.1.9 Run-time error'68'
I've been using the 9010A only with the keyboard, however I am now finding that I have to run some scripts for servicing some old game boards - Pole Position 2 by Namco. By and large I can type the stuff in, but I wanted to use FIDE to both edit the code and upload it to my unit either via the USB mod or the Wi-Fi mod (back in 2015/2016 we talked about these). Is anyone else using Quarterarcade's FIDE? I have a regular occurrence of the run-time error 68. It is Windows based: 68 Device unavailable A hardware device or necessary requirement for the program is not being found. Verify all hardware and software required by the program is installed. If you continue to have the same issues verify the latest updates are installed for the program as well as any hardware device the program needs. Anyone else found a solution or a cause for this? James did leave the source code for FIDE: https://app.assembla.com/spaces/FIDE/subversion/source/HEAD I don't know if James is still hanging out here at TTL, but I certainly appreciate his FIDE program! Perhaps FIDE just isn't happy running over a network...or does it needs longer timeouts? In case anyone cares, this appears to be a problem with my computer, not FIDE. I tested it on a different machine running XP and it works fine (as expected) so I have some sort of error in my hardware or setting that needs to be excoriated. John :-#)# On 2018/07/18 1:26 p.m., John Robertson wrote:

If I was wishing for options off the top of my head, then I'd like it if one could open existing file in a logical manner. Now you can open existing files if you are in the correct directory, but there is no "Open" or "RECENT" function in the Files menu - either of which would be handy... If anyone wants access to the FIDE VB6 source code, James put it up on Github. See below. Below is a thread from James and myself from last year. I have the FIDE VB6 project running on Win10 so I can reference the old code. I wanted to port FIDE to VS 2019 C#. My first attempt so far has been a pain due to the fact that there are old VB6 external module dependencies and calls that are not in WIndows 10. I have yet to shag down contemporary/current counterparts. Object = "{F9043C88-F6F2-101A-A3C9-08002B2F49FB}#1.2#0"; "comdlg32.ocx" Object = "{831FDD16-0C5C-11D2-A9FC-0000F8754DA1}#2.0#0"; "mscomctl.ocx" Object = "{648A5603-2C6E-101B-82B6-000000000014}#1.1#0"; "MSCOMM32.OCX" Object = "{EAB22AC0-30C1-11CF-A7EB-0000C05BAE0B}#1.1#0"; "shdocvw.dll" Object = "{3B7C8863-D78F-101B-B9B5-04021C009402}#1.2#0"; "richtx32.ocx" Porting the original UI VB6 forms to VS 2019 xaml winforms or WPF forms would be easy. I have 1/2 of them ported. Finding the external call references and required dll's is a pain. I got to the point in the conversion that I accepted and appreciated James VB6 FIDE app that I abandoned the port and can live with the DOS BOX workaround for the 91c compiler. BobE Thanks James. This will be one of those winter science projects/challenges. I will see how far I get. Could be fun. Regards BobE On 12/11/2017 8:38 AM, James Bright wrote: It was available, but not obvious. At any rate, I've cloned a copy and put it on github: https://github.com/jbright/FIDE Really the important code that you would want to look at porting over would be the utility code that creates the signature from a given ROM. It's not a normal checksum process. https://github.com/jbright/FIDE/blob/master/VB6Project/FlukeSignature.bas And the other challenge is that you actually have to invoke the 9lc.exe file to *DO* the compilation step. What I had to do was to do a first-pass parsing of the file to handle includes. That would generate an intermediate single file. Then shell out to DOS to run something like 9lc TheFileToCompile and then use that output file to send to the 9010A. If you were going to take this on, I would probably just do a re-write in C# and port over the signature portion. All of the other stuff like color highlighting you might fine nugets that do that already. Good luck! Hi James
I purchased a Fluke 9010a and have downloaded FIDE. Nice program!!! I have installed the DOSBox Win10 64 bit workaround.
I was curious if there was an update to FIDE. The current downloadable version is version 4.1.9.
Any updates to FIDI would be much appreciated.

Good point. I'd forgotten about 9lc. The bytecode sequences are in the manual, should be easy to write a parser. Personally I'd do the whole thing in Python using one of the wrappers around Yacc or Antlr.

I took a stab at this a while back, but abandoned it, partly because the amount of effort to get it 100% was unjustifiable, and partly because I upgraded to a 9100. It’s all on my GitHub in case someone wants to pick it up (unlikely, as it’s written in Clojure, a Lisp dialect for the JVM) or study the code: https://github.com/ieure/flub/ -- I left some decent comments. Instead, I wrote a program that runs 9lc inside DOSBox. It took probably 15 minutes and there’s zero chance of it failing in some way 9lc doesn’t. It’s also on my GitHub: https://github.com/ieure/fcw/ -- I’ve used the same approach with TLC.EXE for 9100 programs, and it work just as well. Also, because I use Emacs for everything, I wrote a major mode for 9010a source: https://github.com/ieure/9lc-mode -- Ian _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com https://pairlist7.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/
Hi John When do you get the error? What are the physical connections and devices (all components) between the 9010A and your computer? Are you using the Fluke factory RS232 serial H/W in the 9010A or an alternative Serial interface? Are you connecting the serial interface in the 9010A to your computer via a USB-to-serial adapter? What version of Windows are you running? BobE On 8/9/2019 6:05 PM, John Robertson wrote:
In case anyone cares, this appears to be a problem with my computer, not FIDE. I tested it on a different machine running XP and it works fine (as expected) so I have some sort of error in my hardware or setting that needs to be excoriated.

Is anyone else using Quarterarcade's FIDE? I have a regular occurrence of the run-time error 68.
It is Windows based:
68 Device unavailable A hardware device or necessary requirement for the program is not being found. Verify all hardware and software required by the program is installed. If you continue to have the same issues verify the latest updates are installed for the program as well as any hardware device the program needs.
Anyone else found a solution or a cause for this?
James did leave the source code for FIDE:
https://app.assembla.com/spaces/FIDE/subversion/source/HEAD
I don't know if James is still hanging out here at TTL, but I certainly appreciate his FIDE program! Perhaps FIDE just isn't happy running over a network...or does it needs longer timeouts?
Thanks,

Hi Bob, The error is when I launch FIDE - in the opening screen I get a message in the FILEs section (the upper left window with the tiny IC in the corner) to _*Click here to select directory *_- I click, and I then get the run-time error. This is an XP, but it is an error in the computer setup as FIDE works fine on other XP machines, I probably broke some setting deep in the Registry. Note that this is from a fresh install of FIDE and the shortcut is setup correctly and the directory that it should open in does exist. Perhaps a user permissions error? I will check into that now that I think of it.. Otherwise I think the simplest thing to do is to simply install XP on a fresh drive and then transfer over everything I care about. Running XP because it is an older computer and Windows, unlike OSX runs slower and slower with updated operating systems, and I need Windows for some of my old hardware that won't run on W7 or later. I should use DosBox (I do for Data I/O 29B) but this computer is handy (still has AT slots!) and it has been running for 15 or so years and why spend the time upgrading until something breaks. Like FIDE... Not browsing with the XP machine so little risk of exposure to viruses and it is only on a few hours a week, and I did install even the latest MS patches for XP. I'll probably soon end up updating the machine to W10 and see if everything else still works. I just hate to retire hardware that is still working...hence TTL! John :-#)#

Hi John Launch FIDE with Administrator rights. After the splash screen is displayed and the Application is open, go to the Project drop down menu and select "Set Root Directory". Menu>Project>Set Root Directory. Pick an existing good directory and see if you get the error 68. Maybe your install is pointing to a Project Path Root Directory and or drive that is non existent and thus the missing H/W 68 message. BobE On 8/10/2019 1:20 PM, John Robertson wrote:
