Hey, that would be my cue :) All of the M72, M82, M84 games from Irem use a NEC V20 which is a 8086 with some extra instructions. It's also pin compatible so the 8086 pod is usable with it. Does anyone know if the scripts for the 9010 work on a 9100a?? It may also be of interest to know that someone (presumably Al Kossow) has scanned and pdf'ed a lot of the fluke manuals and uploaded them to www.spies.com/arcade. There's a fluke directory which has some 9010 scripts and the .exe to compile them, and in the TE directory there are manuals for the 9010,9100 and most of the POD's. (I presume Al wrote the scripts) Unfortunately, the user manual for the 9100 isn't there. Sigh... Cracking the 9010A ROM signature generator

I give up, I am way too frustrated by this stupid signature crap so I am going to dive into my 9010 and see if I can figure out how it is doing it. I first have to figure out if it is in the pod or the base unit, when the signature is being generated I see lots of activity on the pod data buss, so I am assuming the process is handled inside the stupid base. I am going to also see if I can figure out mathematically the difference between the fluke signature and the regular checksum by reading a small bit of data and then doing a checksum on the same bit of data, then extrapolating it from there. I suspect that the unit is taking each data line and adding it up, then the next data line...and summing them all together or in series. Gah. digging into it tonight, perhaps I can report out later this evening what I fine. Any suggestions? I am NOT an assembly language person...I can read it a bit, I understand the process, but I have not programmed with the stuff more than a few lines. Okay I finally got my Fluke 9010A talking to the PC. Cable is DB9 <-> DB25 2 2 3 3 4 20 5 7 7 4 For some reason I can only get 7, E, 1, 9600 (or slower to work) I can not get 8, N, 1 to work properly? Well it is an interesting idea but base (9005, 9010A, 9020 & 9100) units are not too difficult to buy yet (compared to certain pods). I don't think there would be much profit motive, unless someone was to reproduce the pods also. Anyone remember the RATBOX project. Don't get me wrong John (or anyone else), I'd love to see the project move forward, but I'd rather see progress on the Z8002 interface now which is non existant versus work on a "available" unit replacement. Does anyone have a DUMP of the PROM in the Z8002 interface for a CAT Box? Testing Asteroids sounds with the 9010A

Here's a cute test routine, to check ANY of the sounds use the RAMP function. For example Explosion is located at 3600 so use this little program to test that: PROGRAM 0 DPY-RAMP 3600 LABEL 1 RAMP3600 GOTO 1 Now EXEC 0 That will continuously hit the Explosion sound with all the possibilities and you will get a sort of whoosh sound if working, plus you can troubleshoot the 74161...press STOP to stop the 9010. You can also just use RAMP on it's own to check each sound and then when you find a bad one use the little program above to keep it active while you troubleshoot. Then you can turn the board off and replace the part, leaving the 9010 on and waiting...then EXEC 0 again to retest. Works... John :-#)#

Substituting IBM for 9010 base...

Here's a winter project, can anyone think of a reason why you CAN'T wire up an adapter that would allow you to connect the pods to an IBM compatible computer and run them directly using a Z80 emulator? Seems to me that one's speed might go up a bit, plus no need to fix the tape drive...the old AT bus to the rescue? Or the newer bus...? Anyone game to look into this further? I can see a few items that need a bit of massaging, there is the PROBE circuitry after all, and the signature part of the probe, but the rest of the base is a fairly straight forward Z80A computer...and the 80XXX's are descendants...
