I have noticed on these Zoo keeper/Qix boards (BTW, the second level of Dante's hell) and I've run into now three boards that have had their 12V line shorted to ground. In all cases, it's been due to the tant capacitors. I've got some new ones in stock, yet in one case merely having that cap installed (new cap) will cause the short. That's the general observation. The question part comes down to this: is this pretty common for tant capacitors in general? Do they tend to fail short? Since they're used only to cut down on noise in this application (4116 chips), I can run the board just fine without them. Although if there were designed to run with them installed, I'd like to have them installed. Just curious. Fluke pods and 6532's

The 6532 in my Z80 pod recently failed. I know for certain that it's the 6532 as I swapped out the same IC from my 6502 pod into the Z80 pod and *it* then worked just fine (likewise putting the suspect 6532 from the Z80 pod into the 6502 caused said pod to fail with a timeout error). I obtained a replacement 6532 from a UK supplier (Dial electronics). This had the exact same markings as the original 6532, ie it was marked as: R6532AP R6532-13 Trouble is, it didn't work. So, thinking the original must have been faulty, I obtained another 6532 from Dial but marked as: R6532P R6532-11 but that didn't work either. Now before I get hold of yet another replacement from Dial, I'm curious to know whether these chips are particularly prone to failure. Of course we don't know how Dial's stock may have been handled prior to them obtaining it (I'll say here that I've never had a problem with them in the past - all their supplied parts have been fine so this isn't a dig at them!). Also, how crucial is the type of 6532? I mean, how does a 6532AP differ from a 6532P for example? Thanks, Phil

I did not see a way to do this. Maybe I missed it? You can output a register in hex or decimal. Is there a binary method? Would be helpful for testing individual bits. Hi! (Carrying this back to the mail list)...I can see a pretty simple design to test the speed of 5101's as a useful tool in our tool kits...other Static Ram as well. Perhaps an add-on for a standard RAM tester that a number of folks have? What RAM would people like to test? RAM test equipment that I have: SIMCHECK with the RamCheck option StarTek DT-90 Dram Tester (4164/41256) that has a dial for the speed test (kit -schematics on ftp site) E-Comms BUGTRAP Model 8000 that tests 4116, 2118, 4164, 41256, 41128, 411000, 4416, 4464, and 44256. Speed tests from 250ns down to 80ns. I am thinking of modifying the Bugtrap as it does test 4 bit DRAM to do the 5101's - but not sure how to do that at the moment. It's been a LONG time since I last looked at the design difference between Static and Dynamic RAM Addressing issues. Probably take me a couple of hours to glom a small PCB interface then never finish the thing once it works... Curious about interest level

Just curious about the level of interest in an updated 9010A compiler. There are improvements that could be made (similar to what the rice compiler did) that might make certain scripts easier. Oh I dunno... Maybe a simple add operator :) Not that I'm looking to build a full blown compiler with parser, yadda yadda ya. Just wondering what the interest might be. I've been building a collection of RAM testers for a few years...Ebay...I even found an old BugTrap RAM Test device that checks a lot of the 4116's and most Dynamic RAM, but nothing so far that checks 2101's or 5101's... SimCheck's old RAM tester doesn't cover those unfortunately, one needs to find really ancient equipment sometimes... Updates on 9100 stuff...

Tinkering around with my 9100 I was testing out the BACKUP-3.TD0 disc (now in the FLUKE/9100_Fixture directory) and it allows you to back the entire hard drive to Floppy discs and it seems to tell you how many you will need...or if you can find a SCSI Tape Drive and hook it up to the rear... I wonder if the old BackPack Tape Drive would work. I seem to recall that it is actually SCSI with a SCSI to Parallel interface built in...need to take one apart now. Have one in deep storage at the shop - but it will hold something like 80MB...
