Data IO 29b issues

Has anyone succeeded at using a USB->Serial adapter with their Data IO 29b? I'm using a Prolific USB to serial adapter because the Lenovo X200s laptop I earmarked for bench use doesn't have a native serial port (not available on the docking station either). I initially was using Windows 7 x86_64 but that required running Promlink under dosbox which was generating frame errors on the DosBox console and on the 29b display. Switching to 32bit Windows 7, I can run the patched version (standard version gives me Error 11) and it appears to open COM1 which is mapped onto the USB but I get a Frame Err 41 on the 29b and Promlink software cannot connect at 9600,N,8,1. Restoring Old Console Plastic...

Hey everyone... Seems like there has been lots of information out there for a few years on how to use Peroxide based bleaches along with UV in order to remove the 'yellow' from old plastics. I decided to try this on my 9010A because it had been sitting idle for quite a long time in the sun of Colorado and was pretty badly yellowed... Attached is a before and after photos if you are interested... it took me about 4 hours to do this and I would say the results are pretty good. I did have to do some extra steps as the peroxide cream I used (I had the '20%' strength version from Sally Beauty supply, and probably should have tried to find the 40% cream instead) left sort of a mottled bleaching pattern... I ended up bleaching with the peroxide cream twice with a total time in the sun of about 5 hours. Afterwards, definitely some improvements but it is inconsistent and actually didn't look that great. I still had some deep yellow areas. I decided to pull out the acetone at that point to see if I could potentially blend in the differences and it actually just seemed to strip off the yellow layer quite nicely. I used paper towels and acetone a few time to get things looking good, then some Novus plastic polish and that was where I stopped. 9010/9100: Floating the 6502 Data and Address buses

This is a work in progress. I have a couple of Gottlieb sound boards with two 6502s on each that are soldered to the PCB. The only 'easy' way to do tests is to socket the 6502s, isn't it? The 6502 does not support floating the Data/Address bus (except for the 6512), does it? Well, no, there is an easier way - it seems you can float the 6502 Address and Data lines using the following technique: 1) Clip off (leave a bit remaining) of the Vcc pin 8. 2) Find a 40 pin glomper clip and ribbon wire to a 40 pin header. 3) solder 2 40 pin IC sockets back to back after first removing pin 32 from the inner socket (this will contact the cut off pin 8 via the glomper otherwise and power the 6502 CPU) and bend out pin 8 of the other (outer) socket. 4) solder a short jumper wire on the bent out pin and connect it to a jumper that you will hook to Vcc. 5) plug the double 40 pin socket on your 40 pin header and move the connectors on the glomper so pin 1 & 40 move to the correct pins on the outer 40 pin socket. 6) Hook glomper on 6502, connect jumper to Vcc 7) run your 9010 tests! OK, it isn't perfect...need to work on the loading because if I get inconsistent reads from the Eproms on a known-to-be-good board. And the RAM test craps out if the Eproms are installed - sometimes. Need to play with some pullup resistors next...but the RAM short and long tests pass on 6116s. WTD: Fluke 9132 misc items

Looking for some weird-n-wacky Fluke 9132 items: - 9132A sync modules (see link 1 below), ideally three of tbem. - 9132FT ROM adapters (see link 2; I'm not interested in the actual 9132FT ROM pod, rather the adapter [red arrow]). I'd prefer two of each size (40, 28/32). - Any 9132FT personality modules [both the personality and the sync module cpu socket]. - 9132A 68000 personality module [both the personality and the sync module cpu socket]. It has come to my attention that at least one person is having trouble posting to the list. Fluke 9010 -> 9100 questions & trades

Hello, all. I've been reading up, and am considering building out a 9100 setup to replace my 9010. Figured I'd reach out and ask for some advice and see if anyone was interested in working a trade. Couple questions. Can someone enumerate the differences between the 9100A and 9110FT? Looks like: Faster CPU (68030 vs 68000), different PCB layout, and can be expanded to 15(?)mb RAM (vs. 4mb) Anything else? The 9100FT service manual mentions needing to change an EEPROM when upgrading the RAM. Has anyone done this? Is it also necessary for the 9100A? Is the 9132 pod useful for arcade stuff? Looks like it's for 32-bit machines only — maybe you can use one to troubleshoot another 91xx machine? From the manuals, it seems that all the calibration procedures require the probe. I was under the impression that the 91xx probe was identical to the 9010 probe, but I now see that this isn't the case. Can someone speak to how useful the mainframe would be without a probe? Generally, without the harder to find video option, is it a significant upgrade from the 9010a / worth the money? If anyone has 9100 stuff they'd be interested in trading, I have some parts I'd offer. After a little research, it seems that it's for an older device, and doesn't work with the one I have.
