Re: [Techtoolslist] Fluke 9100A - Cannot boot from system disks
Hi, Can someone direct me to a working unserialized version of 6.1 ? So far, I tried these three image sets and used Samdisk 3.8.11 to copy them on a floppy. They all gave me the same error during installation. ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment/Fluke/9100%20Series/System_DiscsRV6.1_VerifiedOK/ https://github.com/ieure/fluke-9100-disk-archive/tree/master/9100-SYSTEM-V6.... https://github.com/ieure/fluke-9100-disk-archive/tree/master/9100-SYSTEM-V6.... Thank Steve. I did that yesterday and the machine works fine. Just not sure what is going on with the disk/image.
I will try with a Gotek to see if the drive is the problem.

Most disc images are serialized - they are specific to the machine and can't work on others! I should probably pull them, but someone might be interested in defeating that bit. The 6_1 that is up has had the serial number test disabled (as I recall)... John :-#)#

Hi Marc A member on here uploaded a V6_1 image to the FTP which is complete and ready to go. it is located here: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment/Fluke/9100%20Series/v6_1-Disk_Image.rar
Unzip it and use winimage to write it to your SD card..

Hi,
I am trying to setup a 9100A unit. The initial hard disk was defective. I had a "missing hard drive" error message.
I've upgrade the roms to the V5 version and setup a SCSI2SD drive. I was able to format the disk with service disk 1.4
Whenever I try to boot from the system disks (tried original disks 4.1, images from 6.0 and 6.1), I get an error:
Error 243 loading /dd/rom/appl
I can skip it but then then I get more errors:
root: appl missing root: Can't start application Path Name not found
And the unit freezes at Initializing system.
Error 243 is a CRC error based on the documentation. The floppy drive seems fine since I can load service disk 1.4. I thought that I did not restore the images properly but since I also get the error with original 4.1 disks, I am not sure what I can try next.
Did anyone have had a similar problem ?
Thanks
Marc

I also have a box of virgin/blank Fluke floppies and I've had no issues writing them (using dtc) and reading them on the Fluke. I've however had issues trying to use Fluke branded floppies that have been previously used, all kinds of errors when reading on the Fluke. If I were you (since you have the temporary workaround of using the ftp HDD image) I'd just install a Gotek and be done with floppies. The Gotek is far more useful and more importantly, far more reliable. Just remember that you need to set the floppy type to Sony in the firmware, if it's set to Canon you're going to have to start messing with signalling lines to get the Gotek to work [yes this will impact the disc change detect test referenced in the manual but I've found no case where this is actually relied upon; rather there is always "press any key" manual detection]. Since you have a working service disk floppy you should be able to do this, or as you found you can just write a service disk floppy to an SDcard and boot it using SCSI2SD. I should add, that if you go this route you'll need to convert the git repo to a format suitable for the Gotek. I batch converted the entire repo to HFE a while ago, if anyone wants this, drop me a line. _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com https://pairlist7.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/

I was able to skip it and this time I was able to boot the system from the disk. Could it be the floppy controller logic that is problematic ? Can you format the scsi2sd card (from recovery) and then once you reach the above step after booting from Gotek can you copy the files from the system and master "floppies" onto the sdcard? Then when booting from sdcard do you get the same error? I sold three As earlier this year, and reinitialized their HDDs using a Gotek and I don't recall seeing the same. If you want to post the Fluke rom firmware version you have, gotek firmware variant/version and md5sum of each hfe image and I'll see if I can reproduce but It may take me a while as all my remaining As have dead screens and I'll have to take a screen off an FT. Once the system is up (after ignoring the error 205 on disk 2), I can copy disk 1 but I am unable to copy disk 2 or 3. It says INVALID FILE after about 45 seconds. I cannot ignore this error so the copy ends there. I tried the TEAC drive and it's the same as Sony. To be sure it was not related to the HxC firmware, I installed FlashFloppy 3.13 and set the drive back to Sony. I get the same ERROR 205. I see there is a Test Floppy Disk option in service disk 1.4 but it's not implemented. It's not there at all on Service disk 6. Is there a known way to perform a Floppy Test ? The only thing I have not updated yet is the RAM (Still at 2Mb). I do not think that 2Mb is the issue since I can load from the hard disk. Not that I am aware of. Unrelated but FYI. Switching to Canon will likely cause issues with drive being detected due to !CHG being on pin 16, Shugart spec is CHG on pin 2. See my old post. Canon drives and Canon firmware actually seems to implement the disc change detect test in the service manual, Sony ignores it. Which is why sometimes you see grounding pin 16 mentioned. _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com https://pairlist7.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/
