Well it finally happened, my old WinXp machine passed away. I used it for my 9010a and older eprom burners. Do you guys still build old Dos boxes to run this hardware that needs old DB9 DB25 serial i/o etc. Or are you building some fancy new systems? Most newer motherboards still have a connection for serial even if it's not installed. I checked my motherboard manual and it had a header for serial so I just bought one of those cheap serial ports attached to an L bracket off ebay and installed that. Just remember to enable it in the bios, I use dosbox in windows 7 to run the old software for my programmer. Serial to usb adapters work pretty well too, but try and get one with a FT232RL chipset (I use a Digitus branded one). Paul. I run Windows7 32bit on my laptop together with an FTDI USB to serial adapter. Works fine talking to a 9010a and 29b upto 9600bps I've not been able to get the FTDI adapter to work with DosBox on Windows x86_64 and you need DosBox if you want to run FIDE on x86_64 as the underlying Fluke binaries it relies on require native 32bit. If you're doing native serial transfers using putty etc, its a non-issue. I couldn't get the Prolific USB serial adapters to work period, stick to FTDI based chipsets. Good luck. _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com https://pairlist7.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/
Prolific stopped support with Windows 8.1 - Windows 10. You can successfully install your old USB-to-Serial adapter based on the Profilic PL-2303HXA & PL-2303X chipsets on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 operating systems. Find the old driver version 3.3.2.102 dated 24/09/2008. Manually install the driver via Device Manager. FYI https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/prolif... I was using Windows 7 32bit as I said. I could never get 32 bit DOS apps such as Promlink to work with the Prolific chipset. _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com https://pairlist7.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/
I am using an old adapter that was in a Parallax kit I bought years ago. I can use successfully PromLink and my DataIO 212 in DosBox under Windows 10 64 bit. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Parallax-28030-Adapter-USB-To-Serial-Rs-232-Db-9-US... Unless you need the physical backplane, I have been using DOSBOX for quite some time and was able to shed all but one of my XP machines and it's just on the shelf "in case". The computers I'm running in my lab are WIN7 and have a serial port. I've run DOSBOX with PROMlink for my Data I/O 29B over serial with no issues for a few years now.
