Re: [Techtoolslist] Fluke 9100A V6.1
OK guys, I found my not-so old NEC USB floppy drive and hooked it up to my Win XP laptop. Of course windows doesn't recognize the floppy. Now how do I make images so I can send them to John (and others) ? I saw a German DOS tool for it I believe in one of the FTP directories is that what I need to use. Or is there any Windows tool that does a "blind" track by track floppy image. Because I do have tools for the Atari ST that can do that...IIRC :) I assume Clonezilla is only good for doing Harddisk images and not floppies ? Hi Andre, Actually on the FTP site I think we have a program that will create floppy images regardless if it can 'read' the floppy - ah, just found it, in the wrong directory - teledisk.lzh. Uploading it to the 9100A section on the FTP site. Andre, You can also try SAMdisk which claims to be able to run on windows 2000 and newer version of the OS. I tied this utility back in April when my 9100 hard drive took a dirt nap and the software did work on XP. Unfortunately, the v6.0 TD0 disk images were bad and I never successfully installed from disks created using SAMdisk. http://simonowen.com/samdisk/ On 11/7/2012 11:33 AM, John Robertson wrote:

Thanks guys, problem is those tools don't work with USB drives mostly....I dug out my old PC and this has a built in floppy drive unit so we should be good to go.......when I find back my old LCD screen.....#^%{##^ Could even hook it to my TV but I'd still need a VGA cable. Going iMac is nice but There are some drawbacks.... Has anyone some info about the Video connector ? I guess it's monochrome and I did find the pin out and Andrew told me it should work with a regular arcade monitor. Do we know what levels of video and sync is put out ? I am planning on hook it to a small CRT TV with SCART input...this should work. Might just hook it to the Green input only to get that nice retro look :) The voltages for SCART are low (upto 1V) compared to TTL levels usually used at arcade monitors. Also, I need to get the 6502 and Z80 pods running, they seem to be inoperative now. The 6502 processor is getting pretty hot, not sure if that is any good. I loved the suggestion in the manual to use a second 6502 pod to examine the first but I only have one...... One more thing I got two more probes with the system, but those have a smaller connector , think it's RS-232 sized, Am I correct that these are for the 9010 ? If so, if anyone is interested in them let me know..... Op 7 nov. 2012 om 21:17 heeft techtools-steve <techtools@arcadehacking.com> het volgende geschreven:

Regarding the monitor all the info you should need is in the schematic which can be found in the service manual - which in turn is on the Flippers FTP. The B/W signal is problematic since the B/W circuitry on the graphics card requires a 5V signal that it get’s from the monitor through the monitor cable. I guess you could supply one independently? The colour signal is, as Andy says just standard arcade monitor compatible so just do what you would do for a normal arcade to SCART conversion if that’s the way you want to go. The signal is changed between B/W and Colour by a series of slightly strange DIP jumpers on the graphics card IIRC. I’ve had the 9100 hooked up to a 1084S and that was fine. I did try a 10” MTC9000 since I had one on the bench but the dot pitch was just too small to comfortably see what was going on. In the end I settled for a brand new Hantarex Polo 14” monitor that I had. A bit of a waste really, especially when so many people were trying to prise the polo out of me for use in their games but I figured I wasn’t ever going to sell it so I may as well use it for the Fluke. Better than it sitting in the loft gathering dust! Martin. The video output is RGB, not monochrome, the sync is seperate and positive. Invert it and combine it to make it work on jamma, or indeed SCART, just plug it in, don't be scared, it works fine. The schematics for the 9100 are in the flippers archive, the service manual details the video card schematic and Pinout. The original monitor was just monochrome, but you can set the colour scheme in the editor settings. I use blue background with white text, this is much easier on the eyes when you are spending hours developing in the sometimes infuriating TL/1 language. Creating/backing up the floppy disks can be a nightmare. I only found one version if Teledisk to work properly using an old 486 laptop with external floppy drive. YMMV. The first thing you should do is replace the cpu's inside your faulty pods and try them again, it's a simple thing, an often works. Definitely put a Z80B CPU in your z80 pod to improve its function and compatibility. Andrew Welburn (mobile) www.andys-arcade.com On 7 Nov 2012, at 23:20, Andre Huijts <a.huijts@upcmail.nl> wrote:

This is a carry over from the vector list discussion... I have a Fluke 9100A that died earlier this year. As bizarre as it sounds, the floppy drive caught fire with one of the components burning all the way through the floppy pcb before I could cut the power. I pulled the dead floppy from the unit and the 9100 worked for another 2 weeks before the hard drive failed. I then had not one but two difficult to replace components which needed to be sourced. I was unable to find an original CANON MD350 floppy drive but came across the info on iobium.com for converting a TEAC FD235GH. Unfortunately, I was also unable to locate a TEAC floppy drive but the technical description and 9100 schematics were sufficient to successfully convert both a SAMSUNG SFD-321B (B=black face place) and SONY MPF920-1 floppy for use in the 9100. I then located a used 40 MB Quantum SCSI hard drive and a CF to SCSI adapter with a 128 MB card which satisfied all of my storage requirements. Finally, I pulled the V3.0 roms and installed a fresh set of V6.0 eproms at U46 and U47 and modified the jumpers to accommodate the larger eproms. Several weeks were spent trying to get the V6 software to install which always ended with an "Error 205 loading /dd/rom/LEVEL1" on the SYS2 diskette. Initially I believed this might have been a comparability issue with the replacement floppy drive I hacked together or the version of TELEDISK I had used to create the floppies so I put the Fluke up on the shelf until I had more info. Now I just read something John posted about V6 images being corrupted so thought it worth pulling the Fluke down and trying to load an earlier version of the Fluke software. I reformatted the CF "SCSI drive" with the SERVICE 1.4 utility and proceeded to load the V4 software from the archive using the /TTL/Test_Equipment/Fluke/9100A/System_DiscsRV4/SYSTEM4_1.zip media. This worked and I can boot V4 from the CF drive successfully but need to load the programmer and UUT disks. The SYSTEM4_1.zip file did not contain any disk images beyond the basic SYS1, SYS2, USR1 and USR2 so I'm at a loss to what I should download and install next. Is there a specific version of the programmer and UUT images I must match or are these optional disks interchangeable between software versions? A pointer to the next appropriate image files would be greatly appreciated! _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/

Has anyone had success adding a second SCSI drive to the base 9100A/FT system? I can't seem to find a reference in the manual about this, although it does talk about using the SCSI buss to add additional storage, etc. to the machine. Trying to see if I can copy the SCSI 6.1 drive directly to CF using the ACARD interface plugged into the rear of my 9100A/FT (68030). Shouldn't be too hard, drives get daisy-chained on same cable. Drive number is selected on drive. Only last drive on cable is terminated. Seven drives maximum (if I remember correctly). On Nov 9, 2012 1:34 PM, "John Robertson" <jrr@flippers.com> wrote:

Thanks,

___________ Ah, should review the reorganized directories...9100A-016_DiskBackup_PN846295_1988.pdf (opps!).
Now to see if I have the install disc or if it is on the system to start with...the only backups on TTL are from 6.0 and 4.x (BACKUP-3.TD0). If this works I'll post a followup (or if not). John :-#)#
