Re: [Techtoolslist] Fluke 9010A and Space Invaders
Phil,. I've used the 8080 pod on the 2 board and it works fine. I got that error once with one of the clock signals being bad by a broken trace. Evidently, the pod check out all the powers and the clock signals going in for integrity. Now, I have a Z80 pod with a uut power fail on a galaga, but all the signals are looking good at the socket. John, do you have a definite to look for why the uut power fail or pod timeout errors, what causes them? Thanks Tony --- Phil Morris <phil@morris0.fsnet.co.uk> wrote:

UUT Power Fail
This has me puzzled - why should the Fluke work fine with one type of boardset, yet not the L-shaped set, even though said L-shaped sets work perfectly with an 8080 in the CPU socket?
Thanks, Phil

All that type of timeout errors I've run across were related to socket problems (when the original CPU works)...new UUT CPU socket and problems went away. Your milage WILL vary. John :-#)# At 1:50 PM -0700 4/13/05, Tony Gonzalez wrote:

Seeing that has reminded me to add that the CPU socket has recently been replaced. Phil _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist

But that's the thing - the boardset *does* work perfectly with a normal 8080 in the CPU socket. I too was thinking of a clock signals problem, but they all check out okay. Umm, go into the setup and disable the UUT Power Fail check?? I trust the power supply voltage isn't just too low down to the PSU or maybe voltage drop across an adapter? Soory, very obvious points i know, but you gotta mention them :) On Wednesday 13 April 2005 20:57, Phil Morris wrote:

Hmm, I wonder if the SI boardset left out a ground that they thought wasn't needed by the CPU, but the Fluke is expecting...how many grounds does the 8080 want? Too lazy to look it up. John :-#)# At 10:08 PM +0000 4/13/05, Martin White wrote:

Nah, that's not it. I think his power supply is just sagging a little too much. Alex ---- ayeckley@elektronforge.com www.elektronforge.com _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist

Okay, thanks for all the suggestions, now for an update ........... As Alex said above, my power supply was indeed sagging somewhat as I just upped the voltage and the Bus Test then passed okay. However ....... I still can't run the board with the Fluke attached using Run UUT - all I get is a screenful of garbage, irrespective of the voltage used. Even RAM tests fail via the Fluke. Plug back in the 8080 CPU and all is well. So, we're partway there but there's still something not right. Any more ideas please? Didn't make any difference I'm afraid.

That was indeed it, but please see my other reply for details on further developments. Phil _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist

At the point where your PSU was too low then it SHOULD have made a difference! Obviously after upping the voltage though, no, agreed it won't...

Is this board still in the cab or is it on the bench? Does the 2 board L-Shape set have any kind of power-on-reset circuit like the 3 board Taito sets? Oh, hang on, nope you said it works okay with the normal CPU. Maybe the board's reset circuit isn't playing too well with the fluke? If it has one. As i say, i'm talking general things here SI is not one of the hardware's i've really done anything with beyond basic troubleshooting. I've certainly not put one on my fluke. Don't think i even have an 8080 pod :) Martin. _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist
