Upgrade 68000 in 9100?
I was glancing at some of the upgrade paths for 68000s a while ago and stumbled across this site: https://amiga.resource.cx/exp/pak3 Which talks about upgrades to 68020/030 for the 68000. Not sure if it is worth it, although my 9100FT does boot up much faster than my 9100s. In any case, I thought someone here may be interested if going further with this... I think it would be hard to mount one of those in a 9100 On Mon, Sep 16, 2019, 8:36 PM John Robertson <jrr@flippers.com> wrote:

I don’t have the manuals in front of me, but if I recall, the 9100FT is clocked at 25mhz and the 9100A is something like 10mhz. I don’t think swapping in an '030 would make any difference in relative speed. -- Ian _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com https://pairlist7.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/

The upgrades (AIR) usually had the CPU and scratch pad RAM running at the faster speed, then it interfaced to the regular bus. I haven't looked into this seriously for the 9100, just thought it would be a 'fun' project! The bottleneck in the 9100A is the disk controller, every time. You could get the cpu running faster but you would still be waiting for that SCSI controller, even if it’s ultimately running a CF card. Andrew Welburn (mobile)

Not my experience. If your 9100A came with the GPIB option you have the identical SCSI controller card as used on the 9100FT (as it's this card that provides the IEEE). Bottom line the 9100FT boots far faster than the 9100A when using identical SCSI controllers and SCSI hard drives.
