We use Hakko at work - my day job (not my arcade job ;-) Hakko 470 and 850. I sometimes bring in arcade boards and use the 470 if I have a lot of desoldering to do. Would love to own one. I think they are in the $500 range. It is self contained, has a pistol style iron, heat the solder, pull the trigger to suck it up. Seems to work great for through-hole stuff. The 850 is used for Surface mount, but I've not used it. PS. I noticed that Netscape wants the reply to go directly to you and not the alias. Has something changed, or is it just another bug in netscape? Seems like normally there is a reply-to header, but I don't see one in your request.

I do all of my work with a hand vacum pump now.
I've heard good things about the PACE SX80 system.
Ideally I'm interested in a self contained unit versus shop air (I've got shop air but it isn't convienent).
Which is quieter?
I can see my needs expanding, needing tweezers, hot air etc. What platform is best for expansion?
JROK posted about a paste for rework, but that is apparently expensive.
Thanks, Kev
I have this http://www.heinc.com/den-on/sc7000.html. Kind of expensive, but well worth the money for me. I've had it for a couple of years now and it's awesome. I can make boards look like they've never been touched. Matt _____________________________________________________________________ On Wed, 13 Mar 2002, Kev wrote:

I've got a Pace 65-SX desoldering station and love it! Mine is driven off of shop air, but they do make the Snap-Vac self contained units. They also make control units that can drive multiple handpieces such as soldering irons and specialized tools for surface mount work. Whatever brand you get, I definately recommend getting one! You won't believe the difference it makes in repair work. -Chris
