Re: [Techtoolslist] Fluke 9010A Install with FIDE
I think the cable is the issue. I'm running a db9 on the PC end and a db25 on the fluke end. I believe I need pin 7 of the db9 to pin 5 of the db25 as well as pin 8 of the db9 to pin 4 of the db25. These are the request and clear to send and none of these ohm out. I believe these are the handshake. I will try the low baud as suggested. Thanks Justin Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE DROID Rodger Boots <rlboots2@gmail.com> wrote:
Another possible way to help your problem is to decrease the baud rate. What typically happens at high baud rates is that data transfers fine until you hit a carriage return, then all the data that was just sent has to be processed. If the sender keeps going you overrun the character buffer in the receiving device. Something as old as a 29A wouldn't handle more than 2 characters before overflowing. That's where handshaking comes in. But if you use hardware handshaking (the best choice at high speeds), the device stops the computer from sending until it's ready to go again.
But you can run without any handshaking if the baud rate is low enough.
So if you set the baud rate to something nasty slow (like 1200 or less) and the two machines then worked THAT would tell you that handshaking is the problem. At least gives a clue.

Trying to get my fluke to respond to my computer. I have a
USB-to-RS232 cord, and my computer recognize the cord. I went to settings on my computer and set it to com1 and matched everything to the computer and fluke.
Wrote a simple program that just displays "test" and tried sending it
through the Fluke FIDE software. The fluke never responds to when I send the program. I don't get any errors of any type on the fluke. However, on the Fluke FIDE I get the following error:

I didn't think the Fluke 9010 did flow control. But now that I look at the back of the unit the 25 pin connector has: 2 TD 3 RD 4 RTS 7 GND 20 DTR So it might do some (no pin's 5 or 6 so no CTS, or DSR). -----Original Message----- From: techtoolslist-bounces@flippers.com [mailto:techtoolslist-bounces@flippers.com] On Behalf Of Rodger Boots Sent: Friday, April 12, 2013 10:28 PM To: Technical Tools Mail List Subject: Re: [Techtoolslist] Fluke 9010A Install with FIDE There are multiple ways to do null modem, but it looks like the one most likely to work would be wired like this: DB9 DB25 1 - 2 2 3 3 4 6 5 7 6 20 7 5 8 4 9 - On Sat, Apr 13, 2013 at 12:07 AM, JJ <rugd2go@comcast.net> wrote:

I have a 6809 pod that I finally got around to testing and is coming up with "POD TIMEOUT - ATTEMPTING RESET" error. Looking at the manual for the 6809 pod, it says to check for short to the crystal or clock depending on the chip. Would I start on pin 39 of the self test socket and follow the schematics back and check the lines on U27, U22, and U23 that's if the enable line on U27 is low? Or, am I looking in the wrong spot on the schematics? Any other advice when trouble shooting these? _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/

Assuming you have a good 6809 CPU in the pod socket and that it is the correct version (6809 vs 6809E) I would be checking for bent pins, etc. The pod 6809 should show clock signals all the time, so you can check for those with a logic probe. Does anyone have a manual or schems for a Boardwalker 101? Heck even a manual for any boardwalker would probably help. Mine came without cables so its limited to being an out-of-circuit IC tester until I hack up some chip clips. I really want to use the logic comparator function to troubleshoot a friend's Exidy Deathrace pcb (now *that* is going to be a nightmare). Mine reports it has a Std v2.0 library. Are the libraries compatible across the boardwalker line? _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ttl.arcadetech.org/TTL/Test_Equipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/
Thanks to the Google I found the guy who was a designer for the Boardwalker 101/102. His name is Keith Vennel and although he no longer has schems or software for the device, he remembered off the top of his head the wiring for the test leads. Email quote follows.
The dual in line header connector was connected to a crimp on ribbon cable connector. Then the other end was connected to two connector that connect the odd wires to one side and the event to the other side of a test clip. Pretty straight forward. The ribbon cable was electrically connected to the test sockets on the front for testing loose ICs. So just ohm between the test sockets and the ribbon cable connector and you get >the wiring diagram for the test cable.
Good luck and enjoy
Keith
