The socketless adapter is probably the MMI PALASM or similar compiler adapter - you would use it to compile your boolean equations and generate the JEDEC fuse map. You would then still use the logicpak with an adapter to program the device. Very manufacturer specific unlike a software compiler like Cupl, Abel, etc. wich were not vendor specific but could target devices from any of several vendors.
