Fluke 9100a X2444 question

Which service disk are you attempting to use? Only one that I know of is keyed to the service ID, and its not going to match the S/N's in those binary dumps of the EEPROM... _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist
Those (undocumented) RAM dumps were from various 9100's X2444 serial RAM devices that I took in an effort to try and figure out how the serial number was encoded. I lost interest due to other more pressing matters..and in fact haven't touched my 9100's in over two years now (I think). Sigh. John :-#(# At 5:54 PM -0400 4/25/05, AL SACCO_comcast wrote:

Well, checking my archives I see there is some documentation by me... -------------(start old message 2002)........................... I have had the recent opportunity to dig inside a couple of 9100's lately (I bought a few NOS ones) and I kept one to go along with my old 9100. Now the problem with these suckers is the software is keyed to a serial number embedded in the EEPROM that is tucked away on the main PCB. It just so happens that this part (an Xicor X2444 - 32 bytes) is readable by my Xeltek Superpro programmer so I unsoldered the one in my old base and read it, and then tried it again in the original base. Still works. So then I decided to unsolder one from my keeper NOS 9100 and read it tonight. So what I have is two 32 byte data streams, the first one (old base) is serial number 4900002 (unknown Site Code) is: A2 C4 4A 00 42 03 FF FB 01 00 0A 00 03 50 08 40 00 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 FE 02 00 00 00 00 BF BE And serial number (NOS) 4775000 "Site Code 1" is: 58 DC 48 00 42 00 FC 00 FC 00 00 00 03 50 08 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 FE 02 01 00 00 00 23 0F The first 9100 has the following options: 4 megs of RAM installed Sony floppy Programmers option w/video card Version 4.X software? The NOS 9100 has 2 megs of RAM ? Floppy Version 4.1 software I'll dig out more from these using the utility disc this weekend. I think the "40" on the first row last byte is the RAM size, this makes sense as the second 9100's is only "20" (2 megs), I suspect the first three bytes are the serial number...maybe... I accidentally copied the Utilities disc to the old base and it has taken over the drive from the original operating system. If anyone has 9100 discs they can be archived and stored via TELEDISK (old DOS or W95/DOS) program...I'd like a copy for trying to figure this protection out for archiving. -----------------(end of 2002 message)-------------------------------- John :-#)# At 8:44 PM -0700 4/25/05, John Robertson wrote:

Now you know which hex bytes you're looking for for the serial numbers, can't you change the serial id in the ram files to match those in your eeprom rather than trying to change the serial number of your eeprom to match John's? Just a thought, maybe a dumb one :) Martin. On Tue, April 26, 2005 7:33, AL SACCO_comcast said:

For those who have damaged floppy disk or missing disk , it would be nice to be able to restore and use all available versions ....since some versions are serialized , it necessary to be able to work around this problem...... On flipper site does any one know what serial # the service6.td0 disk utility is looking for ? ( jjr ) In service6 disk , it shows "set serial # "....might have this capability......need to find out how to use... once we have these understood then no one will be saddled to this issue anymore...... would like to use compact flash or ide drive instead of scsi drive w/ multiple boot sectors so one can use a different version if needed................ Someone did try to find the serial number in the serialized software but, AIR, it popped up (encrypted?) all over the place and thus defeated the effort to change the software. I guess one could put in an 8-pin socket for the Serial RAM and keep a couple on hand with the serial numbers needed. Many Eprom Programmers will handle the X2444 with either a simple wire-wrap socket where the legs are bent to other test socket pins (Andromeda Research) or directly (Xeltec).
