I never do component level work in the field other than Williams ram. -----Original Message----- From: "John Robertson" <jrr@flippers.com> Sent: 6/12/2013 4:46 PM To: "techtoolslist@flippers.com" <techtoolslist@flippers.com> Subject: Re: [Techtoolslist] Interesting stuff on eBay... I have a Z80 Fluke 90 and someplace I have the manual. IIRC the manual seemed to infer that there were similar versions for other MPUs although I've never seen another 90 of any sort. It does have a built-in serial port which I used to do memory dumps of some protected games. Picked mine up for $20 at a hamfest years ago.
The auction comments about it needing a power supply are misleading. It leeches off the UUT but iirc there was an external PSU that could be used if the UUT couldn't handle the extra current.
Never opened mine up. Don't think my manual had schematics.
I never saw any schematics for this device, other than what I made up to convert another one I had to Z80. These can work well as long as the board designer followed the Z80 manufacturers specs and used pull-up resistors on Bus Request and a few others. There are at least four CPUs covered in the series, Z80, 8085, 6809 and another...and it is interesting to watch the device in action, testing RAM while the game is running in attract mode is quite amusing! However I must confess these all sit on the shelf as giant dust bunnies as I use the 9010 instead on the few game boards I still service. However for field work they would be great, so (quick poll) how many of us fix 8-bit CPU based devices in the field?? John :-#)#

Ah, but my shop has all the game test fixtures (Bally-Stern (SAM IV)/Williams (6-WPC95)/Gottlieb (1-80C)) on benches, so we just roll up the 9010 on the 'scope cart and dig in! So, these Series 90s are going to be useful to someone else, it's just in my shop they collect dust. Along with Arium logic analyzers, Fluke 9100s (still trying to figure out the SCSI upgrade!), KK stuff, HP stuff...I've been collecting tech tools for many, many years...it's a long, long list. I'm sure I saw a 6809 one of these on ebay a while back, went too high for me though - as mentioned earlier would be useful for working on pinballs
