Interesting stuff on eBay...
Fluke 90 series Z80 on-board tester (I have one so am not bidding): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310687268151&ssPageName=A... Also a bunch of Kurz-Kash adapter cards (I already have all those so am not bidding on any): http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=Kasch&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.... I have a Z80 Fluke 90 and someplace I have the manual. IIRC the manual seemed to infer that there were similar versions for other MPUs although I've never seen another 90 of any sort. It does have a built-in serial port which I used to do memory dumps of some protected games. Picked mine up for $20 at a hamfest years ago. The auction comments about it needing a power supply are misleading. It leeches off the UUT but iirc there was an external PSU that could be used if the UUT couldn't handle the extra current. Never opened mine up. Don't think my manual had schematics. ________________________________ From: John Robertson <jrr@flippers.com> To: "techtoolslist@flippers.com" <techtoolslist@flippers.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 12, 2013 2:53 PM Subject: [Techtoolslist] Interesting stuff on eBay... I never saw any schematics for this device, other than what I made up to convert another one I had to Z80. These can work well as long as the board designer followed the Z80 manufacturers specs and used pull-up resistors on Bus Request and a few others. There are at least four CPUs covered in the series, Z80, 8085, 6809 and another...and it is interesting to watch the device in action, testing RAM while the game is running in attract mode is quite amusing! However I must confess these all sit on the shelf as giant dust bunnies as I use the 9010 instead on the few game boards I still service. However for field work they would be great, so (quick poll) how many of us fix 8-bit CPU based devices in the field?? John :-#)#

Not me. There's not enough demand (around here at least) to justify the added expense of maintaining a mobile setup in addition to a fixed based of operations (i.e. benches). Even 15 years ago when we did do more field work we'd still generally pull the boards and bring them back to the shop rather than attempt a field repair. I can't even think of a viable way to haul the required inventory around in anything less than a box truck. Alex ---- ayeckley@elektronforge.com www.elektronforge.com
And then people want to give you just $50 for fixing that pcb on a doorstep service. Andrew Welburn http://www.andys-arcade.com On 13/06/2013 14:21, Alex Yeckley wrote:
