Pac-Man / Amiga 1084s question
I'm trying to display pacman on an Amiga 1084s monitor. For some reason I can't get it to sync up. I've got the colors right. I connected the composite sync to R36 but it keeps rolling. Anyone got some suggestions? This monitor works great for most other games I've tested. It doesn't roll when connected in the cabinet. ISTR problems if I used the internal speakers on that monitor. Are you just connecting thru the DB9 on the back? If so, the connections I have are: Looking at the back of the monitor Digital Analog Pin Number TTL Mode RGB Analog Mode 1 Ground Ground 2 Ground Ground 3 Red Red 4 Green Green 5 Blue Blue 6 Intensity N/C 7 N/C Composite Sync 8 Horiz.Sync N/C 9 Vert. Matt, I use a 1084s on my workbench. I made a JAMMA test box and used a pac to jamma adapter I built and it works fine with all of the pac boards I've connected to date. If you are going straight to the pacman board, just sub the pac connections for the jamma ones listed below. The trick is to connect the sync output to the horizontal sync input on the din connector of the 1084s. It's been awhile since I set this up, but I think there is a video mode switch on the monitor that you have to make sure is in the correct position also. 1084s Monitor to JAMMA Connections: Pick up a five or six pin DIN plug from Radio Shack that will fit the back of the 1084s analog VGA socket on the monitor. You hook it up like this to the JAMMA connector: DIN Pin 1 (Green) to JAMMA N DIN Pin 2 (HSync) to JAMMA P DIN Pin 3 (GND) to JAMMA 14 DIN pin 4 (Red) to JAMMA 12 DIN pin 5 (Blue) to JAMMA 13 DIN pin 6 (VSYNC) is not used Here is the diagram for the 1084s Analog VGA connector: 1084 & 1084S Monitor Analog Connector 6 PIN DIN FEMALE viewed at the monitor _______ Pin# Signal / 3 \ Pin 1 G Green / 2 4 \ Pin 2 HSYNC Horizontal Sync | 6 | Pin 3 GND Ground \ 1 _ 5 / Pin 4 R Red \__/ \__/ Pin 5 B Blue Pin 6 VSYNC Vertical Sync Hope this helps, Bill -----Original Message----- From: owner-techtoolslist@flippers.com [mailto:owner-techtoolslist@flippers.com]On Behalf Of Matt Rossiter Sent: Wednesday, February 25, 2004 8:17 PM To: techtoolslist@flippers.com Subject: Pac-Man / Amiga 1084s question I'm trying to display pacman on an Amiga 1084s monitor. Matt, I found that the amiga monitors sometimes needed their sync 'window' moving around a bit to sync up on a lot of boards.. This requires removing the case and finding the H.FREQ pot.. this is often near the front of the tube on the right (if you looked from the back). I've had numerous monitors over the years, and I have had to do this for 2-3 of them, as only certain games would sync up.. I had this just happen with Tron (had to build a simple circuit to combine /H and /V sync too...). I put everything back together and tested it with another JAMMA board (MKII) and it wouldn't sync. I'm thinking I'm just going to mount that pot on the case so that I don't have to keep pulling it apart. Anyone done that before? It's a tiny trim pot and I had this idea after I reassembled everything. Anyone know what the value of the pot is? Otherwise using this monitor has been great. I agree, outside of sync problems, the monitor works great for vids. Let me know how it works as I'm interested too. Looking at the schematics I found (http://staff.washington.edu/rrcc/uwweb/1084P/): Horiz. Sync, R437, 22K Vert. Sync, R331, 47K HTH At 07:00 AM 3/2/2004, James Bright wrote:

You didn't by chance see a similar pot labeled H-FREQ? I believe that's what it was labeled on the board itself. Thanks for the link. If I have time, I'll see if I can set something up this weekend (going out of town on business so it may be a couple of days). Just a quick follow up note. On my 1084S, it's pot R225, "H-HOLD" and according to my DMM, it's 30K. I mounted a 25K pot (more than adequate) externally on the casing. Works well. I can't always get Tron to sync up, but I am also using boards that don't work 100%. Usually I can get close enough though. I just ran a few lines through the plastic case and mounted it using a bracket and a small bit of prototyping board. JB --James Bright www.QuarterArcade.com Restored Arcade Games for your Home

I didn't see the V-HOLD pot on the main board when I pulled mine apart. (I just may have missed it). That being said, simply adjusting the H-HOLD may actually solve your problem. Have you tried that? JB --James Bright www.QuarterArcade.com Restored Arcade Games for your Home
