and probably other models. Script and PC based utility on my webpage at www.arcades.org.uk It only handles 20 pin PAL's with combination logic at the moment, but will hopefully be improved to cope with registered output at some point in the future. anyway, RC1 (as microsoft say) - it seems to work on my setup, so if you have a use for it, then please help yourself. _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ftp.flippers.com/TTL/TestEquipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/

Hey BF, The keyboard is actually a pretty ordinary device. I've posted some docs on J+ (can't recall if I also Cc'd here) with part numbers etc. There are tonnes of hits for the part number on Google that indicate the keyboard was also used in a lot of industrial computing applications, so it's worth checking out ebay et al for serial Cherry keyboards. Now, if you were interested in scoping out the keyboard IO to fill in some of the details (I've just got too much to do and too little time) then I might be up for lending you a keyboard for a month or two? How does that sound as a deal ;) cheers tim On 27 April 2010 21:35, Steve Larkins <mail@nessandsteve.plus.com> wrote:

Sounds good Tim, I will get in touch to arrange the loan. just a thought - it's not a bog standard AT keyboard is it ? - with the older 5 pin adapter ? I should have a PS/2 to AT converter around somewhere, I will locate it and give it a try. I mean these were as common as common things, so why re-invent the wheel when you wanted a keyboard to use. _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ftp.flippers.com/TTL/TestEquipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/
answering myself here, it's not pin compatible, but still a possibility. pulling an old cherry keyboard apart, 4 links - so these would be 5v, GND (shield on the ABI ?), clock and data. anyone have a schematic for the ABI ? On 27/04/2010 22:18, Mike Coates wrote:

Heh. I think our replies are overlapping. I've hunted far and wide but never got a sniff of any schematic package. Only the ops and programmers manuals. I would *love* a schematic package though; it'd make fixing these three I have much, much, much simpler. As it is I'm reduced to swapping out sub assemblies from my one known good worker and seeing how the error messages change. Not that it helps much when the error message goes from one line to ten just by putting 3.1 ROMs in :( On that note, does anybody know what the error message format is for the 4K? It looks like an IC numbering system but the data doesn't match up with physical board locations no matter how I interpret the error codes. tim On 27 April 2010 22:28, Mike Coates <mike@the-coates.com> wrote:

It's possible. The ABI keyboard only has three pins as opposed to the AT standard 5, but I guess they could have used the conductors for clock, data and Vcc and used the shield for GND. I'll have a look for an old AT keyboard in the loft and give it a try. I never was too convinced about the AT-PS2 converters - I thought they changed the wire protocol with PS2 so I couldn't see how a passive adaptor could work? cheers tim On 27 April 2010 22:18, Mike Coates <mike@the-coates.com> wrote:

The protocol changed between the XT and the AT (some keyboards had little switches underneath). The PS/2 introduced a new, smaller, connector but kept the same protocol. -- John Honniball coredump@gifford.co.uk _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ftp.flippers.com/TTL/TestEquipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/
