6800 to 6502 pod conversion...
Decided to convert my 6800 to a 6502 pod tonight. I was lucky as both pos are the "jumper type" so it was merely copying the jumper set-up from the 6502 and replacing the 6800 with the 6502 of the defective pod. Hooked it up to the 9100A and it went through self-test without any problem :) Just for fun, I replaced the 6502 with a CM630P (bought 5 from Bulgaria on e-bay) and sure enough it went through self-test fine again. The regular 6502 pod supports a 6502B so put the fastest one you can find in it... So that should work on a converted 6800 pod as well because they are really identical. Op 15 dec. 2012 om 03:14 heeft John Robertson <jrr@flippers.com> het volgende geschreven:

Not all 6800 pods are dual pods - the early ones were dedicated to the 6800 and need to have a fair bit of modification done. Here is a link to someone that has done that, however I have not done this so have not verified the results with my Fluke factory 6502 pod test fixture. http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=217476 I'm going to check that out in January and will report to the list. Yeah saw that (I even posted in the thread when I was still active there (Level42). I was lucky that my 6800 was a "jumpered version".... Verstuurd vanaf mijn iPad Op 15 dec. 2012 om 19:37 heeft John Robertson <jrr@flippers.com> het volgende geschreven:

Yes, it looks like it should be fine, but the test fixture I have verifies that the pod meets Flukes standards, not just that the darn thing appears to be a 6502. Docs on the test fixtures going up shortly... John :-#)#

Fluke Pod Test fixture docs now up - /Fluke/9010and9100Pods/PodTestFixtures Enjoy! John :-#)# ...
Nice....none of those in my set regretfully so I just have to trust it's ok I guess... Aso, these seem to be aimed at the 9010, the 9100 already does more detailed self-testing, shouldn't that be enough ? Tried to swap boards and U5 this morning to see if I can fix the 6502 pod. One thing I noticed during all the switching etc. is that the ZIF socket is a pretty weak spot. I assume over the years a lot of dust and dirt have gone into them and also they lost their mechanical strength. On my converted 6800 pod it really depends quite a bit where I connect the flat cable, depending on inserting it a bit higher or lower produces different kind of errors during self-test, on other spots, it completes self-test without problems. I'm not a big fan of contact spray but I see little else I could use (except buying a new one) to fix the problem, but it seems to do pretty little for it. Also, on the 6502 pod the interconnection between the two PCBs is very very loose. I read in the pod manual that the connector used is a amp 4-870221 but googling produces about nothing.... Anyone know where to get these ? One more question: since you suggest getting a 6502A, andy reason not to go for a 6502B, which is 3 Mhz ? Oh, and I've scanned and played with the pod decals for the 6502 - check in /Fluke/9010and9100Pods/6502pod directory for some TIFFs, PDFs, etc. of these. the ones ending in B&W have just the text - raw filtered. The "Fluke Pod 6502 Decal.pdf" is the top small label. The rest are the big one in various attempts. Note that you can't peel these labels from the pods (to do a nice scan) without the real risk of damaging them! They are printed on the rear of the frosted vinyl and some of the ink will stay behind even if you try freezing the decal...(gah...). Someone wants to tidy them up to make them suitable for vinyl printing I won't complain!
