Can you use a 63C09E CPU in a Fluke 6809 9000A pod ?
Hi Chaps I have a Konami board (Gryzor / Contra) to troubleshoot, getting a garbage screen. I've removed the old 63C09E CPU and replaced with another from a donor board and its nicely socketed. There is some better activity on the Address Bus now (some of the lines were floating on the CPU) Can I safely use this 63C09E CPU in the 6809 Fluke 9000A Pod ?? .... It's Supposed to be pin and instruction set compatiable. If not I'll use a 6809E and at least I'll be able to do some basic tests. Thanks, Colin _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ftp.flippers.com/TTL/TestEquipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/
Anybody ? - I presume its worth a try, and I've not tried out my pod yet.... However, I've just snagged an Abi Boardmaster so I'm going to have a go with that first !! Hi Col, I see no harm in trying it, the only question is if the pod can run as fast as the clock for the 63C09E. There is no risk to the pod as far as I can see unless the CPU socket has some odd negative or more than 5VDC power lines...pod lines are well protected. John :-#)#

Wish I knew-- I'd give you an answer, but I'm actually curious myself now! IIRC, you actually have to give a short instruction sequence to the 63C09 to switch it to 'enhanced' mode, so I would suspect that it'd work fine for all the basic tests from a cold start. Once you RUN it may or may not act differently though. I don't know if the 9000 series pods rely on clock cycle counting, if so, that might be an issue since the clocks required in enhanced mode are shorter... -Clay _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist FTP site is: ftp://ftp.flippers.com/TTL/TestEquipment Archive site: http://seven.pairlist.net/pipermail/techtoolslist/
Thanks Guys, I certainly think its worth a try, however I've found the fault that was stopping the CPU running, and it passes the Ram / Rom self test now. Just some other issues to deal with like sprite rams and no sound. (This is Contra / Gryzor) Yes, 63C09E 'powers up' in 6809E Mode and its pin for pin compatable afaik, so this would be interesting to try out. I'm a little stuck for space at the moment and there is not much room on the test bench, I'm hopefully going to be set up in a nice workshop before the new year, and will have quite a bit of space to have everything accessable (Back Bedrooms / Spare rooms are quite small in the UK) , so once I have that sorted, I'll be playing catch up with all the stuff that needs repairs and getting to grips with lots of tech tools.
