I checked the usual PROM cross reference sites with no luck. Can anyone suggest a suitable cross refernces to read a Signetics N82S153N PROM? You'd need something like the Data I/O 29B *along with* the Logicpak - I guess other programmers can handle it too but they'll be few and far between. Thanks for the couple of suggestions. I should have been more clear on my original question. I'm just trying to read the PROM (it is a PROM isn't it?) to verify against the MAME set that it's not corrupted. I'm using an EETools Top Max which is a pretty good device (although it can't do the 2708's). In the past, Al Kossow's original PROM cross reference (now hosted on a few sites, but I usually pull it from mikesarcade.com) has always been able to stear me to a substitue PROM to be able to read it, but this one isn't listed. I know what you mean - I made my own enquiries into this in the hope that my Data I/O 29B would handle it, trouble is that it won't even read the 82S153 without the UniPak. :( Unless anyone here knows differently? _______________________________________________ Techtoolslist mailing list Techtoolslist@flippers.com http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/techtoolslist
It's not a prom but an FPLA from Signetics. If the securtity link that protects the reading of the fuse array is blown (which is usually the case in commercial products, you will be unable to read or duplicate it as the addressing of the fuse array will be scrambled for protection. Interesting ............... my own research (a few days ago) revealed that it's a PLD and doesn't have a security fuse so *can* be read. :) Phil

You could be right about the security fuse on the 'S153 - I was going from memory. These parts go back over 20 years ago. I used to work for MMI who created the PAL which was a competitive device to the FPLA. We had the security link on the PALs for sure.
