I've posted this for a day or two: ftp://ftp.flippers.com/TheBook.pdf it's almost 15 megs...too big to keep up long - I've already had to boost Flippers to 750mb and that's as far as I want to go for now.. Thanks John that's a great document, I haven't seen that one before! Does anyone know what document(s) there are that cover game board theory of operation, etc? I vaguely remember another Atari doc that had some great operational descriptions about how a game board works, from the CPU, memory, to the video output section, motion object control, etc. It was a great plain english description about the different subsections of an average raster game pcb and what they did. Although the one I saw covered one/some Atari games, the same theory still applies to pretty much all others... I can't remember if it was a seperate Atari doc, or just a brilliant tech manual for one of their games. BTW for some reason I am seeing send/replies to techtoolslist@www.flippers.com (with the www. in it) I assume it's still working ok though. pick up virtually any 1970's atari manual and you will get a complete theory of operation of how the game board worked, this is great when you are first learning this stuff, they stopped doing this complete theory of operation for each game by 1980 tho. Got it, or one at least... I'm sure there's another with some great block diagrams and descriptions of the game board functional blocks, anyone know it? I found good info in the Williams Defender Theory of Operation manuals, can get them here... http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=7547 Anyone know of any others? If this is the Atari Black Book ... I picked it up a couple of weeks ago. I noticed that Anthony had it just sitting on the shelf so I asked him how long he's been holding out one me. :) It's got a lot of the real early information, which can be information that I've missed in the past. Simple things like a reference page for manufacturer logos on chips is gold, Jerry. Gold. Between John and Andy I should be able to get up and running. Thanks guys. I will have to shift my mind from a processor/memory mapped based testing (relying on the Fluke a lot) to strictly gate oriented tested. But it should be fun.
