Any Taito Bench Tester documentation available?
Hi Martin (and anyone else), Anyone have better copies of the Taito test fixture than what was sent to TTL back in 2005? John :-#)# On 11/21/2005 5:31 PM, Martin White wrote:

I REALLY wish my memory were better (and I'm only in my mid <cough> thirties!) I know I've already passed this manual on to someone else in the past and I could have sworn it was you Joe - or maybe Scott <insert surname since i really can't remember!>. Google groups tells me that back in 2001 I was talking to someone called Rob about it?
Anyway, I shouldn't bother trying to tap him for any further info - he'll probably think I've lost the plot (which isn't far from the truth). According to google (again) the chap that supplied the manual posted on rgvac as Wes (Wesley Allen Hay springs to mind, or something like that - even that's lost to my memory). He worked for Taito Australia. When i sent some stuff back in return for the manual it was to an address in the general area of Indonesia. The working for Taito Australia yet the address being in Indonesia really confused me at the time!! Mind you, he did say that Taito wasn't Taito anymore in Australia, so maybe he also wasn't in Australia any longer? Who knows!!
So, unless the author of Kram lived in that part of the world then I guess I've just got things muddled as per usual and likely he had absolutely nothing to do with the test rig. It was sometime (mid?) in 2003 I got hold of the manual.
Perhaps he knows something about this one (the Test Tech)?: http://www.guddler.co.uk/index.php?selected=6&content=12
(Have the manual for that too but it's not scanned).
I have never heard of another of those but they must be out there!

Well, that didn't take as long as I thought it would :)
It's definitely called a "Taito Multi Checker" rather than the widely accepted name of "Taito Bench Tester".
The manual could really do with re-scanning but what I've just uploaded will have to do for now since it's the best I have and don't have a lot of time to re-scan it at the moment.
As a complete aside, I got the documentation from a guy that used to work for Taito of Australia - i think (i could be confusing it with the manual for the Taito Test Tech - one came from eBay, the other this chap). The guy's next door neighbour (allegedly) wrote Kram (named after him since he was called Mark and couldn't think of anything else!). I got into an email exchange with him over these two bits of kit (the Taito Test Tech is Taito's answer to the cat box). I've not been in touch with him for a long time now though unfortunately. I have no reason to dispute what he was telling me since he came up with the goods. His neighbour had remembered using the multi checker but only knew of the test tech.
Anyway, a scan of a poorly photocopied manual is better than no manual at all, right?
It has generalised instructions and a full wiring diagram. Unfortunately, not schematics but I don't seem to remember there being that much on the boards inside.
Hope it helps!
Oh, manual needs to be approved and moved somewhere before it will be available for download.

I've been watching out for that Kram author that lives by my friend every time I visit him. Just can't break through to him. I talked to him a few times a number of years ago, but haven't in a long while. I'd love to find any Taito bench tester documentation. I don't recall him mentioning he worked on it, but who knows? John, Thank you, I truly appreciate that. I saw the post where you asked for and received that from another person, I too emailed that same person and to date no reply. I have that same model and it quit on me. I'm almost ashamed to say I joined this board for that reason. Very interesting board though. Are relays readily available for the old pinball machines? the reason I ask, I have thousands of new (old stock) cp-clare relays. Lots of the open frame relays like some real old pinball machines used. Had no idea that there was a an active vendor/service of these machines. Having been in electronics for 35 plus years I have people ask about repair for them on rare occasions, now I know where to send them. Thank you.again. Hi Phil, Pinball relays are usually custom made for each manufacturer. They did not use off-the-shelf relays (for the most part) until the digital revolution. Wurlitzer jukeboxes and Allied Leisure did use PB relays in their EM games as well as early EM/SS hybrids. Arcade games tended to use industrial relays and solenoids - sometimes. So I can't say that your large stock of relays will appeal to pinball folks, but they do to we who repair jukeboxes and arcade games. John :-#)# At 11:32 AM -0500 11/22/05, Phil Harwood wrote:

Hmmm...perhaps too many people looking? I only have 12 slots open for FTP.
ftp.flippers.com in the TTL/Test Equipment directory under /Huntron
I really should introduce some basic security, anyone have a script that will check for valid email address in a data field (member of TTL for example)?

For what it's worth, I run Mac OSX as well so the Taito one should be fine :o)
In fact, it was created by just opening the TIFF in preview and clicking on "save as pdf". Nice and easy.

I run OS X and thus can't test as no-one has bothered to write a virus for the MAC OS yet! (This is NOT a challange - I like the lack of needing to run virus/spyware/worm/etc. checkers. Saves me hours!)

Martin.

John, Don't get me wrong, not trying to peddle them on the board. It was just a thought, remembering the old mechanical pinball machines of the past with the rows of relays. I haven't had time to inventory them in the past 15 plus years and I still don't have the time now ! Perhaps at some point I could list them on a website where they could be made available. The voltages, frames currents are so varied I'm sure they would be of benefit to some if available or even known about. That also covers not only the multiple open frame styles, but various sealed like the mercury, mercury reed, mercury wetted, as well as the small pc board mounted vatities. I say thousands of relays, it would many thousands, not even a guestimate beyond that. My problem like most today is time. Thanks, Phil ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Robertson" <jrr@flippers.com> To: "Technical Tools Mail List" <techtoolslist@flippers.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 22, 2005 12:56 PM Subject: Re: [Techtoolslist] Any Taito Bench Tester documentation available?
Hi Phil,
Pinball relays are usually custom made for each manufacturer.

No problem with selling items of interest on the mail list- even of items of limited interest - I just spent about ten hours trying to find a particular relay for an old arcade machine - you might have known it off the top of your head. Information is always welcome! John :-#)# At 1:22 PM -0500 11/22/05, Phil Harwood wrote:
