part sourcing help - edge connectors, hook leads
Anyone have a good source for edge connectors of various sizes? I don't know what to call what I'm looking for, so it makes it hard to search for. Trying to build up my test area environment. I have a good JAMMA set up, but I'd like to expand to test non-JAMMA (and build some of the more common PCB adapters to JAMMA). I'm looking for connectors that on one side is the female side, i.e., a flat male side edge connector would plug into it. On the other side of the connector would be two rows of pins. I looked at a couple of ones that I have and while I have the female side, the two rows of pins aren't the pins I'm looking for. They just have a pin. I'd like to get pins that are flat and have a small hole in them so I can easily use hook leads. I'd also like to get an assortment of different sizes (number of pins). I hope this made sense and maybe someone can tell me the correct/proper names for these so I can search myself. And while I'm at it, anyone have a source for decent priced hook leads? The one's I've found are ridiculously expensive. $9.95 (plus shipping & tax) for a one foot piece of wire with a cheap hook on each end. Yikes. I guess I'm not very good at searching. If I'm understanding correctly, you're looking for what I would describe as a "card edge breakout" board. Something like this https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13988 but obviously this is specific to a particular application?

As I said, they are called "grabber" test leads, or mini grabbers, Commodity Chinese item if you want to go cheap. You can get packs of 10 without wires and make up your own leads, premade with grabber on one end and Dupont connectors on other or with a grabber on each end. The HP grabbers from their logic analyzers show up cheap on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264598713165 Just use some decent quality F-F dupont cables to connect them. Joe, You can get cheap knockoff grabbers on ebay for as low as 10-15 cents a piece shipped, from China: https://www.ebay.com/itm/333555954731 Just be aware that you get what you pay for. I bought a bunch of the cheap ones a while back, and through regular use, they tended to break after a while (months of weekly use). Usually it's the tips that wear out and crack or break, just due to the type of plastic used, as it isn't the tough nylon that Pomona uses. They're cheap enough that you can just replace them, and are fine for light hobby use. But if you want quality, you need to pay for it. (Or that's what I found when I went down this same road, anyway.) I just add one or two of the Pomonas to my cart every time I do my monthly Digikey order now, and that keeps me stocked, without needing to spend a ton of money at once. They make the best ones IMO, but yeah they aren't cheap.
