I have been successful in copying the EEPROM files from a machine that I had the System discs for onto my old 9100 that did not have the system any more. The System disks now will boot the old 9100 and I assume in half an hour I'll be able to copy them onto the base and then be able to again boot the old 9100 from the hard drive. Next to see if the programmers files are still there, then to see if there is any way to extract files through the RS-232 port... I shall put a file on the archive server with the EEPROM and the corresponding System discs. Note the ftp is now ftp.flippers.com/TTL John :-#)# How to subscribe or unsubscribe from TTL: To do either you send email to "MajorDomo@flippers.com" and in the body you state either "Subscribe techtoolslist" or "Unsubscribe techtoolslist", note that the Subject is "" (Blank)... Update: The old 9100 now boots from the revision 4.1 floppy images that have been transferred to the hard drive. I have a working 9100 again! ftp://ftp.flippers.com/TTL/Fluke/9100_Fixture/SYSTEM4_1.zip You'll need to be able to program a Xicor X2444 to do this, plus the data format of your programmer needs to match mine, most of the data should be a similar layout to your X2444 EEPROM except for a few bytes - the first three (9100's Serial number) the last two (Signature checksum?) and a couple of others for memory size etc. The programming files seems to be unavailable at this time on the machine. Rats... However I am able to recover programs (text) via the serial ports. Now the question is, how can I simplify the process somewhat. I know that the directly of files is available with the "HELP" key, but I don't have the 9100 manual at home and was wondering exactly how to do this procedure. I have gotten into the PRINT UUT ..1.. TEXTFILE ...2... TO PORT1, now what exactly is "..1.." and "..2.."? I see that there are a bunch of files for ..1.. that are cryptically labeled such as AA_PX, CLB, HALT, HPC, PICA, SELF_TEST and a bunch more, and that if I choose, for example, SELF_TEST then ..2.. allows me to choose from labels such as BARS, COPYFILES, HALT, HELPMENU.C, RS232.C, UPLOAD.C and others. Are these sub-sections of the program SELF_TEST and if so, can I extract them all at once? I've started to extract programs from the 9100, they are zipped on the FTP site in the 9100_Fixture directory under USER_FILES. Hope they help someone... If anyone would like to extract theirs and send them to the incoming directory I'll shift them over - send me a note. These are for using a SUN workstation (UNIX?) with the 9100 via the RS-232 Port, included are some file sorting utilities. I haven't had time to do more than just read them lightly... More news, the RV6 floppies work fine with my 9100 (was RV4 prior). I wonder if they dropped the copy protection by then. So if you want the System 6.0 floppies (3), Master User (2) Programmers (1) and IEE488 (1) discs they are now up on the FTP site in a single zip file. You will need Teledisk to copy them to double sided double density floppies, do NOT try and use 1.44 floppies, this only works with 720's on the 9100 (AFAIK). Teledisk requires you to be in DOS (not a DOS window) to work, it does work with W95 booted in DOS mode, and also DOS6.XX and earlier. John :-#)#

This is bitter sweet for me. I spent lots of hours working on removing the V4.0 protection and had it about 80+% complete. With 6.0, it appears that all the protection has been removed. Even if these V6.0 images aren't yet coded, the system allowed the floppies to remain write protected on boot AND on install to a freshly formatted HD. YAY! I was able to make the 3 system disks, take a newly formatted HD and install V6.0. Now to make the programmers disks. I will probably have my "spare" 9100FT available for sale if anyone is interested. Will have a clean install on a working HD. Has the video card, but no Fluke keyboard.
Yup, I spent a few hours as well, as did others. Nice to have corroboration on the installing of System6, I suspect a few people are going to be relieved with this. Now to bump up the hard drives. You mention you have a newly formatted hard drive in your machine, was it a 20M as defined in the 9100 Service floppy (RV4) or something else? I'd really like to get rid of my very noisy drive...it is giving me a headache! We do need a copy of the RV6 Service Floppies... John :-#)# At 09:18 PM 30/09/2002 -0400, Corey Stup wrote:

I have 3 of the Micropolis MFM drives. One has a bad sector 0, which is keeping the 9100 from formatting it (the boot block is stored there). One has a failed track, but the boot sector is good. The last is one I got used from another (non-9100) environment. All 3 are noisy, but I find that my fans are louder than the drive itself.
