Well...

FIDE would of course be THE fat client to integrate it into :o)

I don't always have FIDE fired up when I use the site. Sometimes I just use the site because it's easier to pull it up and get the memory map out of it (or a good start at it!) than it is to go through the drawer for the documentation.

I don't think there's a huge amount wrong with it as it is TBH. Perhaps there is a bit more work required on identifying the rom and ram regions, but comparing what comes back to the mame souce I can see the problems you have obviously been through and it's already doing a pretty good job all things considered. Without knowing how you've implemented it already, it is awkward to offer up constructive suggestions on that one - I would if i could!

Perhaps one way to get quite a good improvement quite quickly would be to name the programs that are created according to some arbitrary counter (AA, AB, AC etc)Ê rather than based on the rom image names since very often the program names come back as invalid names preventing things from compiling. At that point the thin client model becomes a bit of a pain as it's not the fastest thing in the world to correct!

I think the whole area is extremely interesting!

I recently switched from a PC to a Mac and installed Virtual PC pretty much exclusively for running FIDE since I intend to do a lot more work on this kind of stuff if I ever get the time...

If you need (or rather were looking for!) a volunteer to assist with anything, then don'tÊhesitate to let me know.

Martin.
PS: Got side tracked to the subject of the code generatorÊitself there! In answer to the original point, yes, i think the wiki - type idea would be great. Would be interesting to see how many people give against take, which I appreciate is going to beÊgoverned by the fact there are probably a huge amount more fluke owners than people that know how to script for it.

Hmm. I didn't know that there were this many users (both of you!). I was actually considering making this a web service and having a fat client application that you could download locally. The reason would be that once you make updates to the memory map, it could be re-published to the site (with comments!). Sort of like a Wiki for 9010A code. There wouldn't absolutely need to be a fat client, but my thought was to integrate this directly into FIDE. I've just been too busy lately to do much with improving FIDE. I started on a .NET version (versus the crappy VB6 implementation) and go distracted with life and such...

Interest? It could start off rather small, like the ability to annotate what is already there. The fancy stuff could come later.

I've been using this for quite some time since it was put up and I have to say that while it isn't perfect (what ever is!?), it is a MASSIVE help and I wouldÊtruly be lost without it.

I also keep meaning to ask if there's any way you could package it up in a sellable format somehow? The idea of one day it not being there because you don't have the site anymore for any reason nearly always goes through my mind whenever I use it. I realise that's it's almost certainly a DB/Script type of application, but that's not an issue to me.

Of course I could go through and generate scripts from all the drivers, but 1) that's impractical 2) defeats the object of having a dynamic script building engine that allows you to edit the regions under test and 3) is the main reason spies disappeared!!

Ever thought of somehow being able to package up a locally installable version? No idea if this is solely hobby, or any portion of it being income for you mind!

Martin.

Thanks (put it up a while ago, but haven't added many new features recently). Usually I just give outÊhttp://tech.quarterarcade.comÊ, although the link below will work as well...

Just was directed on the Rasterlist to quarterarcades' tech section.
Haven't looked there in a while. James has created a great tool that
allows you to input a video game name and it generates a memory map,
and both the Checksum AND the Fluke Signature!

Way to go James! A great assist to folks that use the Fluke (etc.) in
fixing their games!
