I think my unit is broken though. Any chips I have tried it with had the output LED's just flash irregularly. I am not sure if the test procedure should give the results as I have described before ? One of the IC's I have been testing with is a 74LS283 (4bit binary full add with fast carry). The clip is aligned with pin 1, the IC in the textool is aligned with pin 1, the output dip switches are set and still the LED's are flashing while I am expecting all of them to remain unlit.

The HP 10529A is quite easy to use. You have  to put a known good IC on on the card that has two micro switch banks  (forgot it's part number). The switches are used to "say" to 10529A what pin  are input and what is output. So, check on IC's datasheet the input pins, and  move the correspondign switch pin close to IC for  input and move the switch far from IC for output pins. You are now  ready to test.

 
 
The +5 and gnd will be supplied by test clip on the IC  under test.

 
 
If  the IC under test is Okay, nothing happens, just the +5V will light. If  something wrong, the corresponding led will flash, indicating some missing  signal on that pin.

 
 
Pay  attention that the 10529A is not 100% correct, it's a very good tool for  obvious problems. For counters and flip-flops troubleshooting, you  must to power on the board with test clip attached or reset the board first,  otherwise you will have different data inside the  ICs.

Anyone who has ever used one of these ? I think  the dipswitches are related to the pins which are logic outputs but even when  playing around with those switches I am still getting unsatisfactory  results :-(

I recently got ahold of an HP 10529A logic  comparator but I am not sure how to use it.

 
 
The unit came with a self test card and a card  with textool socket 10529-60014.

 
 
When I insert the test card and supply 5V to  the card connectors the logic comparator LEDS blink shortly with a 2 second  interval or something. If I also connect the logic clip on top of the  "dummy" IC I get a long blink (approx 1 sec) and then still the short blink.  I don't know if this qualifies as "normal" behaviour.

 
 
To test the 10529A comparator I tested with a  Wonderboy PCB. I insert the appropriate 74LS chip in the textool socket (pin  1 aligned to the "1" mark (near the SW error led)) but no matter how I  fiddle around with the dip switches or COMP/CLIP switch I always get red  comparator LED's to remain turned on (I expected either all of them to light  up or remain off). I have tried with different 74LS chips on different  locations but I can't get any decent result out of this.

 
 
Can anybody tell me how to use this 10529-60014  thing (no manual here) or tell me what I am doing wrong ? A short  description of what the dip switches and comp/clip switch are for would be  welcome...
